US 181 Harbor Bridge – America’s longest cable-stayed bridge
Traffic in the USA has increased by 38.4% in the last 25 years, and along with it the importance of measures to create and maintain safe, efficient transport links. The city of Corpus Christi in Texas is rising to this challenge with the new US 181 Harbor Bridge, which will have a considerably higher capacity than the structure it is replacing. Doka’s formwork expertise was called in to help build the 164 metre high pylons and over 100 piers.

ALEJA-Center Ljubljana Food Court and INTERSPAR realised by umdasch
SES Spar European Shopping Centers, the market leader for shopping centres in Austria, opened the trend-setting ALEJA-Center in Ljubljana as a multi-functional shopping and leisure hot spot at the end of May 2020. The iconic building is a further architectural highlight in the magnificent cultural capital, Ljubljana, thereby creating a new rendezvous for the city’s inhabitants. The characteristic design features continue into the public areas of the Food Court within the centre; the specially crafted furnishings were supplied by umdasch.
Umdasch acquires an interest in the Turkish shopfitting company Madosan
Subject to the approval of the anti-trust authorities, which is still pending, the Store Makers at umdasch, Austria, will be acquiring a majority share in the Turkish shopfitting specialist Madosan in Bursa, a large city some two hours’ drive south of Istanbul. The present owners, Vedat Saygin and his wife Sevgi, will remain on board as minority shareholders.

Paperless construction site thanks to digital twin
A replacement structure for a hydropower plant is being created in Flums SG – completely paper-free. In doing so, the client, planner and builder are relying entirely on BIM. Doka is also on board. The formwork experts are producing the formwork plans entirely in 3D. The data are exported to the overall model for the work preparation and used for ordering materials and execution. On the construction site, the 3D formwork model ensures more efficient workflows.
Katara Towers
Timed to be ready for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, a new luxury hotel complex is emerging on Qatar’s coast: Katara Towers. In addition to hotel rooms, the towers, which are just over 200 m high, will also contain apartments, offices, leisure facilities and restaurants. For erecting the core walls in the towers, climbing formwork systems from Doka were used.
“Evocco” from Ireland wins the Josef Umdasch Research Prize 2020
Within the framework of this year’s Josef Umdasch Research Prizethe umdasch Store Makers were looking for smart answers to the question regarding resource-saving concepts for tomorrow’s Point of Sale. Just before the coronavirus shutdown, the five finalists presented their forward-looking ideas in the Talent Garden in Vienna on 11 March. The Irish start-up “Evocco” convinced the international jury of experts with a consumer app which shows the ecological footprint by scanning the invoice. The winner is already working together with the Store Makers on the strategic further development of the solution.

In Feldkirchen near Graz, everything revolves around shoes with the highest wearing comfort for young and old on 1,200 square metres since mid-April. legero united opens the "shoemakers outlet" and unites its four brands legero, superfit, VIOS and Think! under one new roof. The special feature is a circular building complex, which has also been taken up in the store concept. A perfectly staged experience tour, in which umdasch's store makers emphasized the identity and philosophy of the respective shoe brands both in the store design and through digital tools. Refilling is booming: umdasch Liquid Dispenser for ECOVER at Sainsbury’s
Good news is especially important in difficult times. It is therefore all the more gratifying that umdasch has succeeded in achieving a further milestone in sustainable shopping opportunities with the Liquid Dispenser at Sainsbury's (UK). In cooperation with the British supermarket chain and Ecover, a manufacturer of ecological cleaning products, a refilling system was again installed outside the German-speaking area. If the first test run is successful, the system will be rolled out.
