Sinntal Viaduct: Forming wagon TU lends elegance to cantilevered parapets
On the A7 near Bad Brückenau in Northern Bavaria, Germany, an aesthetically appealing bridge spans the valley of the River Sinn in a broad sweep. As part of the works on this new bridge, around 3000 linear metres of elegantly shaped cantilevered parapets had to be formed in fair-faced concrete quality, using longitudinal planed tongue-and-groove board formwork. 4.00 m long Forming wagons TU from Doka, coupled together to make 28.00 m long travelling units, helped work to progress both safely and swiftly, as they could be towed ahead rapidly in a single operation.
Doka lays foundation stone for new logistics centre
On 5th July 2013, Doka laid the foundation stone for its new logistics centre for Germany, being built on an 11.4 hectare plot in an industrial estate on the B 87 highway near the town of Apolda in Thuringia, Germany. Formwork technology maximised performance in rebuilding of Messe Basel exhibition centre
In terms of its scale and timetable, the new exhibition centre in Basel was not just one of Switzerland’s but also one of Europe’s more unusual jobsites. This huge complex, involving a total investment of CHF 430 m. (approx. EUR 350 m.), demanded extraordinary construction performance from the contracting consortium MEZEBA. To meet the exceptionally tight timeframe, the consortium relied on formwork, climbing platforms, load-bearing towers and stair towers from Doka Schweiz AG.

Beyond solutions.” In their own 3600 m² pavilion – the Doka Cube – the Formwork Experts will be showcasing innovations in four different theme worlds. Visitors can look forward to seeing a prototype of Doka OneGo, a new formwork system with which walls and slabs can be cast in a single workstep. Doka will also be presenting Panel floor formwork Dokadek 30, the new Framed enclosure Xbright, a new development for tunnel-building called DokaCC, and the new Framed formwork Framax Xlife plus, Wall system DokaBase and Load-bearing tower Staxo 100 eco.
Second Midtown Tunnel – an underwater solution to keep the traffic flowing
The major order that Doka ‘landed’ for the Second Midtown Tunnel will actually be finished underwater! This 1,13 km long immersed tunnel will link the cities of Norfolk and Portsmouth in the US state of Virginia. The eleven separate segments of the tunnel are being cast at a dry dock in Baltimore, MD, after which they will be floated about 320 km south to the Elizabeth River and lowered to the riverbed. The ‘Heavy-duty supporting system SL-1’ tunnel formwork that Doka is supplying to this project is a high-performing yet cost-saving solution. As well as being the first SL-1 project in the USA, the Second Midtown Tunnel is the biggest SL-1 tunnel project (by order volume) in Doka’s history.
App-roaching communications in a fresh way
For many of us, smartphones and tablets have become faithful – and indispensable! – companions. Mobile devices are also increasingly in demand as practical tools to help with work on the site. Doka has responded to this trend with its Doka Tools app. This handy application lets users carry out even complicated calculations relating to formwork usage in just a few clicks.
Speedy solutions for a high-speed link
Hauma Railway Station is a new showcase project in the Israeli capital. A national megaproject, it involves the building of a central underground station for the new high-speed rail link between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Doka supplied the formwork solution for several interconnecting tunnels and other structures. In fact, a number of different products from the Doka portfolio – such as Load-bearing tower Staxo, Large area formwork Top 50 and the ‘Heavy-duty SL-1’ tunnel formwork system – are keeping work moving ahead safely and cost-efficiently on this huge project.
Diamonds for the Orinoco
Taking a road and rail link across one of the biggest rivers in South America, together with its swamps and flood-plain, calls for a new crossing of truly superlative dimensions. Two 135.5 m pylons for the third bridge across the Orinoco River in Venezuela are taking shape with a formwork solution and automatic climbing technology from Doka.

Fewer sheet joints: XXXL-format 3-SO sheets
Until recently, the large-area sheets available for use on formworks requiring small numbers of joints have tended to be smooth-surfaced ones. In cases where both vibrant wood-structured surfaces and harmonious sheet-patterns are required, joint-reduced formwork elements can now also be faced with the new extra-wide XXXL format sheets 3-SO.
